About the event

Prepare for Dr.Hite's Zoom presentation by doing the following:

View: Angela Davis and Toni Morrison on Literacy, Libraries, and Liberation (be sure to begin at 0:00). Length: 1:44:59

NOTE: This conversation between Angela Y. Davis and Toni Morrison is an erudite discussion that students should experience. The then recent publication of Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, An American Slave, Written by Himself: A New Critical Edition by Angela Y. Davis occasions the discussion between the pair. Their reflections on literacy, liberation, libraries, democracy, capitalism, and the global world order are shaped by how well, widely, and thoroughly these women read. As such, it provides depth and richness for our exploration.

Read: “The Reader as Artist” by Toni Morrison
